Welp, here we go

At the urging of a great friend, I’ve decided to finally do it. I’ve contemplated this for quite some time but have always dismissed the idea, citing a long list of excuses…among them being: no one cares what I have to say, I don’t have anything to say, I don’t have time, it’s too personal and voyeuristic, it’d be weird if people read my thoughts, etc. but here I am…writing my first blog post. I’ve poured myself a very large glass of Oregon Pinot after an impossibly long day (not to mention week), I’m bundled up in two blankets on the couch, and ready to write. New year, new things. None of those reasons seem very valid anyway.

Uhhh...except for the whole “what to write about” issue. I suppose I will write about some of the things I enjoy doing/reading/learning about. So here are some topics you can expect to see posts on:

• Psychology. I’m a closet psychology nerd…most all of the books and websites I read in my spare time (oh wait – I don’t have that!) are related to psych in some way. It was my minor in college, and those and sociology classes were my absolute favorites. Particular areas of interest are personality (especially the effects of birth order), gender, cognition, and the media. Ohhh my gosh, that sounds impossibly boring! Bear with me...
  
• Art, music, fashion, pop culture
• Media, marketing, advertising
• Relationships
• Politics…a little, maybe. We’ll see.
• Feminism
• Religion
• Aaaaaand of course, ramblings and musings from moi.

It’s kind of ironic, I’m reading a book right now called The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement by Twenge and Campbell. I just finished a chapter on social media (blogs included) and how incredibly narcissistic it is in nature, yet here I am…oh well. But that’s another post altogether.
